Our Favorite Dog Parks in the Norton Area

With cool crisp fall days rapidly heading our way, it is the perfect time of year to take our fur babies for a walk and a play. Ohio summers are often simply too hot for our canine companions and the winters – well, just too cold. But fall is a dog’s time of the year – not too hot, not too cold, but just right. And with the added benefit of lots and lots of leaves to play about in.

So where to go? Here are three of our favorites to pay a visit to:

Decker Park

Decker Park is in nearby Barberton and open until 8pm daily. Park users love the place, giving it a solid 4.1 out of 5 stars in Google reviews.

It is an ideal spot for families with human as well as canine children, boasting a good playground and a water fountain to play in.

Users enjoy the high quality dog park and one reviewer said simply: "Lots of dogs for my fur babies to run and play with."

Another said: “Our dog loves this place. Great mix of dogs and sizes. Fun things for them to play on and a water station to keep them hydrated in the summer.”

Completing the comments a third dog owner said: “Nice dog park. Love the agility equipment! Could use a few shade trees for hot sunny days but otherwise nice place.”

Portage Lakes State Park

The Portage Lakes are a series of eight bodies of water and the state park serving it is off Manchester Road in Akron.

For park lovers, there are 411 acres of land and water to explore, and the lakes themselves are used regularly for fishing, boating and swimming.

Managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the park is open until 11pm each night and people spend an average of 2.5 hours each visit.

Google reviewers give it 4.5 stars out of the maximum five and have great things to say, with one saying: "The park is a nice place to take the family on an outing, love the dog park."

Wadsworth Community Dog Park

A little further afield in Wadsworth is a dedicated dog park, off West Street.

Dog owners love it, giving it a massive 4.7 stars out of the maximum five on Google reviews.

Comments include: “Definitely a great place to run my dogs," and “Everyone is so genuinely friendly here.”

There are separate areas for big and small dogs, with 30lbs being the guide for owners to know which area is best for their pooch.

One owner said: “Great place plenty of room. Good dog owners for the most part,” and another added: “My dogs has a great time. Clean and nice size.”
